History

The UP4 alliance, an initiative that brings together Spain’s four technical universities, was presented to the public in November 2015. UP4 offers an exemplary academic environment in Spanish higher education and aims to promote high-quality technical education and technology research in Spain.

The technical universities that form the alliance stand out for the strong academic performance of their students and the high proportion of graduates who find employment. Though they represent only 5% of Spanish higher education institutions, UP4 members file 22% of Spanish patents and generate 30% of total income for applied research.

These distinctive features and the enormous potential they share paved the way for a solid collaborative project: the UP4 alliance. This was the insight of the four rectors who signed the agreement to create the alliance: Enric Fossas (UPC), Carlos Conde (UPM), Francisco J. Mora (UPV) and José Antonio Franco (UPCT).
